The Museum of Miniature Houses
My mom, my girls, and I visited the Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel, Indiana in August of 2021. This is a place I have wanted to visit for many years. My mom and I have enjoyed miniatures for years and have built some miniature houses at various times. The museum did not disappoint! They have many fascinating displays to see.
They have some very old dollhouses and dollhouse furniture displayed. There are many dollhouses from a variety of time periods fully furnished in different styles. Some of the dollhouse are very large while some are quite small. Other interesting objects and shelves have even become display places for miniatures. In one room of the museum there is a dollhouse with furniture that kids can play with.
In addition an audio guide is available providing background information about many of the items on display. We enjoyed hearing the insights provided. The museum also has a gift shop of miniatures. While the shop seems small, the merchandise is small too. There are plenty of things to see in the store. You might be ready to start your own miniatures collection with a purchase.
The Museum of Miniature Houses is located in near shops and restaurants in Carmel. The museum is a fun place to spend a few hours. It would be easy to find a full day’s worth of fun activities very close by. I would definitely recommend this museum for anyone interested in miniatures! I think people who aren’t necessarily miniature fans would enjoy a walk through this museum as well. It is very intriguing and not too expensive. This probably isn’t a good place for young kids who might not enjoy looking carefully at the details of small items. It is a place that is calm and quiet with many breakable displays and some small spaces. Being comfortable using inside voices and walking feet is necessary to enjoy this museum.
