Around Property – 10.19.22

This day was a transition day from our first couple days to the dance portion of our trip. After a late night flight and an early morning start to a full park day, we needed some sleep this morning.  We all slept in, got ready, and took a ride share to our next hotel with our luggage. After getting settled into our new room at Disney’s Coronado Resort, we spent the rest of this day relaxing and traveling around Walt Disney World.

What We Did

We always have fun riding Disney transportation and exploring Disney resorts. We started with a bus ride to Hollywood Studios. From the bus stops at Hollywood Studios, it is a short walk to the skyliner station. We love the skyliner!  We rode from Hollywood Studios to the hub at Caribbean Beach. After a transfer we rode to the Pop Century and Art of Animation stop.  We took some pictures and looked around Art of Animation.  We decided to stop for a snack at their food court.

The next leg of our travels was a ride on the skyliner back to Caribbean Beach and then back to Hollywood Studios.  We then caught a bus from Hollywood Studios to Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter. After some exploring at French Quarter, we walked over to Port Orleans Riverside.  This was a fairly short walk on a very nice sidewalk along the river.  We walked by a horse drawn carriage and saw a boat on the river.

We spent our evening watching Yeeha Bob perform at the River Roost at Port Orleans Riverside. This man is an amazing performer! He is so entertaining to watch and a very talented musician and comedian.  He plays the piano incredibly and hosts a show full of sing alongs and fun along the way.  We highly recommend this show to anyone of any age visiting Disney World. There are no reservations and the lounge does fill up. It’s great to arrive a little early if you can. He doesn’t perform every night, so be sure to check the schedule online ahead of time and see if you can make it to one of his performances.

After Yeeha Bob, we used a ride share to return quickly to Coronado.  It is possible to use Disney transportation, but it would require a transfer and it was getting late.  The girls had a full dance day starting in the morning.

Where We Ate

For breakfast, we ate granola bars and applesauce that we had in our room while everyone got ready for the day.  May not be an exciting breakfast, but it works for all and is a good money and time saver.

We made our first visit of the trip to El Mercado at Coronado for lunch. This worked ok. There were choices that worked for everyone. We were all satisfied with our meals. El Mercado has no allergy friendly desserts though. My oldest missed the allergy cupcake that the other Disney resorts offered.

This long trip was a great opportunity for using the resort mugs.  When you purchase the refillable mug, you receive free refills at all Disney resorts in their quick service areas. I think refills are included for 2 weeks. We were on property for 10 days and didn’t use all of the days available.  We could also fill them by the main pool at Coronado.  It was a good value and a fun thing to have.

This was a day full of fun snacks. At Landscape of Flavors at Art of Animation, we filled our refillable mugs and had some desserts.  They offered the yummy and cute allergy friendly cupcake. We also chose a standard cupcake, a cheesecake, and vanilla ice cream.

We had dinner at Sassagoula Floatworks.  Unfortunately this was probably our worst dining experience of the trip. I placed the order with the chef in person for the allergy meal. They estimated about 7 minutes on the allergy meal. I waited about 7 minutes and then did a mobile order for the rest of the family. The food for the rest of the family was ready, but not the allergy meal. I checked in with the cast members at the counter, because the chef was in the kitchen.  They checked in on our meal and said the allergy meal would be out soon.  There was a mistake and they were remaking it. I very much appreciate their willingness and carefulness to make sure the meal was safe. Disney is amazing at keeping allergy meals safe and communicating well.  They are the best. This one meal was the one of our trip that ended up being the most difficult.  A hungry kid who is frustrated to have to order from limited choices and then sit and watch their family eat while they continue to wait is not having fun. The rest of us finished our meals and waited a bit longer.  I checked on the allergy meal again. It did eventually come, but the long wait was tough and we had places to be.

After dinner we went to the Scat Cat Lounge and had beignets.  Gluten & dairy free beignets!  What a treat. We ordered standard beignets for those of us who can do that and the allergy ones for my older daughter. She got to have both standard and pumpkin flavor beignets.  They were all yummy! Definitely worth a trip to Port Orleans French Quarter, especially with a gluten & dairy allergy!!

Where We Stayed

This was our first night at the Coronado as part of our dance trip package. This is a moderate hotel and a step up from our usual Disney options.  It is a beautiful hotel!  The lobby and main tower building are very pretty.  The grounds are large and spread out. There are many different buildings in three different areas.  These areas surround a large lake. There are many areas to walk or jog. The resort has multiple restaurants and a few bars. There is a gift shop, an exercise room, and a convention center.

There is a feature pool with a large pyramid, a water slide, a splash area, a playground, a pool bar, a snack counter, a sand volleyball court, a hot tub, and a large pool. Pool side games are available here through the afternoon too. There are also quiet pools around the resort.  There is a beach area along the shore of the lake in places.  This is a beautiful spot to relax and they even have hammocks available.

Our room here was noticeably larger than our room at All Star Movies the first two nights of our trip. There was more walking space at the foot of the bed and more space between the beds. This makes getting ready and moving around in the room much more comfortable with four people in the room.  The bathroom was larger. The finishes in the room were higher end. We were overall very happy with the resort and would love to stay here again someday!  The step up in cost from a value resort is probably not something that will work for us in the future though, and we will still be glad to stay on Disney property in value resorts on future trips.

It was great fun to be staying at the Coronado with our whole dance group. It was such a neat experience.  The convention center at the Coronado was also used as part of the dance events and organizing.  For this reason as well we were very glad to be staying at the Coronado for these days.
