In March, 2022 we visited a local place I had wanted to see for a long time. We went duckpin bowling at the Fountain Square Theatre in Indianapolis!
Duckpin bowling is like typical bowling except the balls are much smaller and lighter. The balls are more like the size of a large grapefruit than a typical bowling ball. This makes it easier for kids or people who may struggle managing an 8 pound or heavier bowling ball.
They had two different places for bowling. At the time of our visit one was in use for a corporate event. The area where we were bowling has a very retro feel. It felt like visiting a pop culture museum. The décor is similar to a 1950s soda fountain. We all really liked the atmosphere and enjoyed taking pictures as much as bowling.
I think up to 6 people can bowl in each lane, and lanes are rented by the hour. Scoring is done manually by the bowlers. There is an automatic ball return system. We enjoyed seeing the vintage balls, alley, ball return system, and décor. We were there on a weekday afternoon and it was not busy.
My kids said it is the perfect place for senior pictures, a prom, or a wedding reception. We highly recommend a visit.
